The 'saala' word

The newest word on my kids' lips is 'saala'.

Thanks to songs that either prefix 'Aye Saala' (Rang De Basanti) or suffix 'Pappu can't dance saala' (Jaane Tu) the word, I am livid when they sing these songs. Try as I may, they can't be contained. My inability to restrain their ardour is quite disconcerting although quite frankly, I like these songs too.

It is getting increasingly tough to control external influences on the children. I'm in a real fix here.

I think it is still better than many songs that had really dirty lyrics in the past. I think the singer's name is Poornima.

Share your predicament. My toddler of two and half years started attending montessori and has picked up some good things and few no-so-good things-like pushing others, using her legs to kick everything.

As for song lyrics, kids these days are exposed to all kinds of lyrics, and its difficult to tweak everything to what is right.
Maybe you shd just let them be as long a sits just "Saala".

Part of growing up chechi!, don't worry! when theres's a much better song regardless of the bad/good words, they will change their humming to that!!

Hi Arunima, I know... I recall some of those songs.

Hey Romila, somehow I dont know where we should start drawing the line as parents. Today 'saala' may seem a harmless word, tomorrow maybe something worse will seem just as harmless. I am just concerned about the values we should be imparting to them.

Hi Barath, I know what u mean...

Usually kids learn the bad things easily than the good things.

I shared your post with my hubby, and he pondered for a while and said, "I wonder how parents coped when songs like Choli ke Peeche were in vogue!" Our kids are exposed to the darnest of influences and alas, most of them are not worthwhile.
